Had two 8' sections of log. One real straight and clear and the other with a few knots and bigger branches.

Ended up with a few hundred board feet of quarter sawn 4/4, 5/4, and 8/4 off the bandsaw mill.

Got 4 good sized slabs off the other log. Had some nice figure.
It was a good day

Nice. You use a Granberg with Stihl 880 for roughing it up?

Sometimes if logs are too big for the mill I'll break them down with the CSM first. If I'm cutting wide live edge slabs I have to use the chainsaw mill because the width of cut on my bandsaw is limited.

Yeah that's alot of track. One of my friends is trying to find a band mill. He is crafty and was thinking one of these saws would be up his alley.

It's a great mill. The more I use it the more I envy the guys with automated woodmizers though. I added a motor to raise and lower the head which made it much better. I'm considering deconstructing it to make the width of cut larger. There's really not much to them.

Nope. I really don't mind pushing it though. If you didn't see my other thread I build a retaining wall that the mill trailer parks against to put the track at ground level. Easy to walk the mill back and forth.

I bought it used actually. Guy had it mounted on a 35' trailer. Not sure why you'd need that much track but I can cut 25'+ feet if need be.

Was it bought in the PNW? If so they could of been doing some beams.

Yes i did. Outside of Corvallis. Guy claimed he hauled it to Montana and built a cabin start to finish with it. He did have tons of 4/4 black walnut stacked and drying.

There was 2 nails in the first log and one in the second. Wrecked 2 bands, one on its first cut and one chain, also on its first cut.

Get yourself one of these from Harbor Freight. Saved us many saw teeth at my buddy's mill. Great looking lumber you got there!

What's the penetration on that? One of those nails was damn near the center of the log.

I'd say 6" to 8". Maybe a little better. If we get iffy logs, we keep scanning as we mill. Usually try to go all the way around before we load them on the carriage. If that nail was dead centre, not sure if it would've picked it up but we've avoided some pretty deep metal.
