Hello, I'm new to this forum, I don't see to much about my craftsman/ Poulan here. Anyone else have this, or any in the same series?

Yes. Lots of guys do. I have a 3700-18 like the one in the foreground. I also have a three 3400's a bunch of 3800's, two Poulan 3700's and a 4000.

There is a brand specific thread here which includes one for Poulans.

Both of yours are very nice examples.

Welcome!

Nice saws with a strong following. I see the one in the foreground has a 4000 muffler with the extra outlet.

Awsome, my 3.7 sparked a love for saws, and yes, I modded the muffler on that one :), so many talk about them at a high standard. I'm on arborsistsite also and talked a lot with them, but I just like talking about them... Just learned some poulans have adjustable oilers. I have no idea if the craftsmans ever had them. I bought mine for $30 and haven't looked back. I'd love to find a 5000 series some day.

Speaking of mufflers, when I modded mine, I left the the spark screen in. 3/8 holes were drilled in the diffuser and I opened another port on the side. Should I take the screen out? Safety outweigh the power increase (if any)?

I figured, all the mods I've seen they take it out, I don't have the need to deal with forest fire, thanks!

lend me your ears... Does this sound like its tuned? I know there's only a quick sec to hear to the 2-4 stroking switch. Wish I had a bigger diameter log around...

The screen flows fine as long as it's clean . Best to cook it with a propane torch then wire brush it. Great saw an most red ones are 3700s. Welcome!

Is a full chisel semi skip good for a 3.7? Or semi-semi?

I like this one:

It will probably last forever. It was made back in the days when quality and endurance both counted. My friend handed it to me for restoration. About all it needs after 40 years is a new bar.

I bumped it to a 20" bar and now it looks a little like this one:

Of course, this one is not red. Not sure which one is older. Both run flawlessly.

Can tell year by looking behind muffler on cylinder head or bottom of top cover
