Put my weight on the top handle last night getting up and it moved! I thought loose but was much worst. The handle looks to have been repaired previously and it was about to fail again.
I cut a plug from aluminum stock with the small diameter end cut to a few thousands smaller than the I.D. of the tube. The larger diameter end was cut to the O.D. of the tube.
I was able to reshape the end of the tube to almost round and then drove the plug in up to the hilt, about 1 1/4 inches. Drilled it and there you have it. There is another threaded hole in the bracket on the saw, for display I don’t see a need. I feel I was lucky today by not breaking something made of unobtainium so I decided against backdrilling for now. Looks great and the handle is secure.
