Cool top handle repair on old saw

I thought loose but was much worst. The handle looks to have been repaired previously and it was about to fail again.

The larger diameter end was cut to the O.D. of the tube.
I was able to reshape the end of the tube to almost round and then drove the plug in up to the hilt, about 1 1/4 inches. Drilled it and there you have it. There is another threaded hole in the bracket on the saw, for display I don’t see a need. I feel I was lucky today by not breaking something made of unobtainium so I decided against backdrilling for now. Looks great and the handle is secure.
