So I ordered this kit back during the Fathers Day promotion in May or June or something. I didn't get around to building until this past week.

I'll start by saying that I've never had a saw down to its bits and pieces. Never have I split a case or held case halves in my hands. The only time I had removed a jug prior to this, was when I initially got my 046 from its previous owner. I stopped at jug and piston removal. I had the handle off of my 026 once, to swap the impulse line and av bushings. That's the extent of it.

I dug in. I had watched a lot of YouTube videos and bugged the living *s-word out of poor Al during the process.

The beginning! I bought this crap.

And I proceeded to put the crankcase together. Uhh...oops.

Yep. I sure did. Fml. Good thing I ordered spare gaskets and crank seals.

So I proceeded to do what anyone without specialized tools would do. I got out the bfh. And buggered up the flywheel threads.

So I hand cut those with a triangle file. Perfectly...thank goodness.

...to be continued...

It started coming together pretty easily from there...

Progress!

I cleaned up the burrs in the cylinder and assembled it without a gasket. Tested squish with solder and it measured .0225. Nice!

Turns out when I was beating the *s-word out of the Chinese crank, I cracked the other nose. It chipped and wouldn't hold an e clip. So I broke down and used a couple of c clips from the hardware store. Works fine.

Good enough for who it's for.

Oh, I'll add...

OEM parts used:
*Clutch needle cage, mainly because the Chinese didn't include one.
*Eclips and Cclips because American ones are actually made of spring steel.
*Bar nuts, because damn those Chinese ones are way too thick.
*Decomp valve, because I don't like them to be INSIDE the cylinder.
*Spark plugs, because spark.

What P&C, and how does it run?

I used the stock one, with a liberal deburring with my Dremel. It's my first ever saw built by me, so I wasn't feeling adventurous.

One of these days, I'll change the P & C, if she survives long enough.

Oh, I forgot your second question. She runs pretty well. She's a fairly high compression 90cc saw, so I guess that's to be expected. She has a high standard to live up to, sharing shop space with a MOFO 046. ;)
