Here is the beginning.
It is a ms 361 from Dan ( paragon builder) he found it on CL and passed it on to me for a great price.
So Thank you first off to Dan.
Its not a shelf queen but is in good shape overall. I hope the new owner will be proud to own this saw, find it very useful and quickly become one of their favorite saws.

I knew from the set out that the saw had been scored and inside the muffler showed it was run lean I suspect a straight gas. The piston is really scored up and I don't know if the cylinder is salvageable. Time will tell.
next step is to strip it down and give it a pressure vac test. Hopefully over this long weekend.

Ill be back guys.

David

So I know it's burned down but I wanted to check what caused it so pressure and vac test right off the bat.

I've tried different things to seal up. I took some rubber from linemans gloves but the rubber was too flexible and didn't work well.
We use this other stuff to insulate for low voltage. It's more of a plastic soft but has more structure. Here are some pictures of the stuff and how I set up for the test.

Next I go in through the impulse whenever I can for the vac line.

I try vac first. If it holds vac solid a don't test pressure. 5 psi is quite a bit of pressure I don't go much higher than that for a test. I use pressure only to locate the leak. I use windex because It seems to bubble up good.

I was actually getting a leak on the impulse hose where it connects to the base. It looks like it wasn't on all the way.

I removed that hose and went right to the case.

Success!

The crank looks and feels good

But that's where the good news ends.

I'll take all the luck I can. I'll need it for this to clean up. So for now that's where I'm going to be for a while trying to clean this with out ruining it.

Catch you all later

Dang! Looks like they ran it a bit... So the culprit was impulse line was loose?

I suspect it was possibly a weak impulse. The fuel (very little) left in the tank looks clear. Maybe straight gas. I may have needed a carb kit. I haven't gone into the carb yet.

What I know...
Scored
Ran lean
No vacuum leak after the impulse was fixed
