What model did you buy? X27?
Splitting axes usually have a wider. Thicker head for separation of the wood.
Chopping axes are usually more traditional and thinner near the cutting surface fir deep penetration and cross cutting into the wood. Thinner near the handle than a splitting ax.

Just checked the Fiskars site. Chopping ax should not look like my photo. It should be more like a traditional ax for chopping and felling. Not really for splitting.

Note* Fiskars doesn't recommend striking a metal object with their splitting or chopping axe. I think the Isocore maul is capable of striking a metal object with the poll.

Actual, I use mine to drive steel wedges and haven't had it chip yet. I like the splitting axe for what you want to do. I use the felling axe for driving felling wedges if needed.

The difference is in the axe head geometry. A top view of a splitting axe is above. Here is a chopping axe:

Here is a pretty good pic of a racing axe (for chopping) in action. Look how thin the top profile is but look how deep it penetrates the wood to remove large chips. Try to split wood with this axe and you will spend a lot of time getting unstuck.

Try to chop this log with a splitting axe/maul and you might as well use a hammer, lol.
