Happy Birthday! Hope you have a good one!

Thanks bud! It was a good one. Lunch on the mountain -- grilled lamb chops, Greek burger, mixed salad and fried cheese bread.

After that, we took a little offroad ride and checked out some land and cabins in the woods. Just replaced the engine and radiator in the Kia. Had to go and try it out.

Oh yeah, and got some Husky 372 parts in the mail....all-in-all, it was a good day!

Happy birthday and what is. A Greek Burger?

Any time I see one around here the patty is made of ground lamb, and usuallly incorporates feta somehow. I am sure we have bastardized it somehow though

Here's a basic recipe....except for the bread soaked in milk. That ain't traditional at all. Bread crumbs are the norm. Here in Greece, they don't use lamb, and the gyros are not made from lamb either.

Not sure why the use lamb in the US. I think it makes people feel like they are eating something that's really ethnic.

Ingredients
  1. 1 lb lean ground beef.
  2. 1 egg.
  3. 1 tsp salt.
  4. 4 cloves garlic, minced.
  5. 1 medium onion, chopped finely.
  6. black pepper.
  7. a pinch or two of crumbled dry oregano.
  8. 2 or 3 slices bread, soaked in milk and then squeezed.
Grilled or pan fried. You can also throw in fresh chopped mint or parsley. No bun and usually served with fresh cut french fries.

Pretty much 'a burger' here too! Although, I tend to leave out the bread crumbs and egg - those do go into a 'meatloaf' though.

(Bummer about no lamb in your Gyros . . . )

Philbert

I prefer beef in the burgers and pork in my gyro. My lamb is on the spit, chops or in the pot with red sauce.

If you do use lamb, go for some mint instead of parsley...you'll thank me later. It's goooooood! And it keeps your burgers from becoming indigestion 'bombs'.

A little vinegar sprinkled on the top during grilling helps render the fat.

I'll throw a couple recipes in with prizes 54 and 55 when I send them out. ;)

That weather would totally wipe out my tomato plants. Have to call my ma today and see if she got any of this weather--she lives up in Wyoming.

Boy, it's amazing what a little over a month, and some good ole' fashioned sheep chit, will do to your tomatoes.
