@Mastermind if you are seriously going to target shoot it........ Id love to relieve you of its trouble. I really would like the challenge. And really could use a saw this size since i have to give my dad this 372 i just rebuilt for his Christmas gift this year. Anything i have in the 70cc range is from the 70s or early 80s and heavy as hell. I understand your frustration with them but i think i can still see some value in them for my application.

Problems with the AM 440s … Comparison of 044 case to AM 440

As Al stated the barb is about .015 too long. I'm using a simpler fix, my #8 SAE washers are .045 thick and work just fine (between impulse and case).
(OEM .350, AM .365). This fix is simple and has resulted in reliable operation of all saws with a good carb! (pic to follow).

Also note the upper bushing does not provide the proper spacing from the case. OEM .890, AM .805. I've inserted #10 SAE washers in a few cases, and it often makes a noticeable difference, but they are only .043, so I'm going to start using 2 of them instead. That should smooth them out a bit!

I'll be taking the OEM parts off, using the tank, and case on a rebuild for my friend Tracy. Not really gonna shoot it. LOL

I can say plunge cutting with race times involved could lead to a shítload of bad injuries. Some could be fatal.

I'm not in favor for that reason alone.
That's how it's done in most events out west. I've seen more chain throws cutting cants so I'm not sure why you'd come up with something like that.

The elevation difference was a big bugaboo for tuning that I didn’t really compensate for.
The 661 was dialed in for big fun at @700’ back home but was a total schizophrenic at Randys to the point that after messing with it for a good hour, Joey and I gave up.
Als new version 026 that was a contender back home ran like it had an air leak and I didn’t even consider it might have been elevation, so i put it away too.
I wanna blame my poor showing in the bracket racing on elevation but i think realistically i had a day full of suckitude LOL.
I still need lots of practice, practice, practice.

Darn elevation, I live at 4000' and cut there most times, have my 461 set at 14,000 rpm most days at home for cutting, went up to 9000' to cut once, 461 was barely hitting 8500 on the tach, had to turn the screws way in just to get it to tach 13,500...
