I have a few loops of 3/8 .050 72dl I need shortened to 70dl. They are all stihl chain. My local shop wants 10 per link removed and I refuse to pay that. I have 5-7 chains I need shortened. Anyone local to the Owosso area that would be willing to do it cheaper?

Why don't you just buy the pre-straps and do it yourself?
Never looked into it I guess. What tools would I need and where would I get the straps for Stihl chain?

I have shortened several of my own chains with just a grinder, strap and hammer. I’d never do one for the public but I’ve never had a problem with mine.

Wonder if a bicycle chain breaker would work ? I have one of those

If you don’t have any presets let me know I’ll send you a couple to practice with?

I have a punch/breaker, but never use it.

I just grind off the heads of the straps that I want to remove, and wiggle. They fall right off.
I'll try that also

That I do and would be happy to. I only have Oregon chain parts so I can’t assemble yours without Stihl stuff I would think. I also have square 3/8 .050 I could spin for you. I have a grinder to keep them staying sharp too if needed.
