I sent a PM yesterday. Don't know if you got it or not.
Yes I got it, you and CoreyB are inline for the grinders. I'll post a for sale thread with pics and details and tag you guys. I'll also note you guys get first crack at them. I want to wait until I have the USG in hand.

Sounds good. I just wasn't sure if my PM went through. Thanks Nathan.

Maybe we'll just add it to the list of stuff I need to bring to Greenwich GTG next year??

Or maybe I'm just looking for an excuse for a return to NY next spring... :D

That would also give me a good excuse, not that I really need one.

Shipping to Canada from the US is expensive!

Yea I know, I just need to get the wife interested in going next year. Plus I can drop some 009/010's back in dave's truck to get him back for leaving his pile in my car!

Having used several different grinders, I think the Northern Tool knock off of the Oregon is the best bang for the buck for the typical user. I still file a lot but a grinder is really nice for bringing a chain back to uniformity after it gets all catawampus. The current Harbor Freight grinder is not worthwhile in my opinion as it is nearly impossible to get consistent results due to having to hold the "bike brake" while moving the flexing wheel mount. The earlier versions of the HF grinder were better.
I grind most chains with my 511AX which I like a lot and have the NT knock off set up just for rakers. I grind small chain with the HF grinder (early version)
I also have a Foley Belsaw grinder but haven't used it. (yet)

For doing round file, those inexpensive 12 volt hand held grinders work very well and are twice as fast as doing it by hand. Do not use the stone that comes with them, get a EZE Lap diamnond stone for each size you need. The angle guide on the thing helps a lot.

I just bought an oregon 511 off of ebay for 419.99

I have no idea if it was a smart decision or not.

You'll be happy with it. Did you shop? Amazon has the 511AX for $349 including deliver. Just saying. (or did you get a variation of that model?)

I agree with fearofpavement the NT knockoff is hard to beat for the occaisional/commercial cutter. With jigs and guides costing what they do a hundredish bucks for a proper grinder that will give results like the best of them is SO hard to beat! I feel bad giving this advice as it is based on a stolen design and must he costing the original designer a fortune in lost sales. For this reason I will be buying a genuine Oregon/Tecomec soon. My knockoff just keeps going grgrinding as many chains as I throw at it day after day after day. I actually secretly wish it would break so I'd forceyself to replace it with the genuine article.
