I'm one super happy guy right now.....brought these two Homelites home today. Unfortunately both are seized but I'm gonna let them soak and hope for the best. One is a 770 gear drive with a 2 speed reduction and the other is a Super 77....not sure if its a Wiz or not. Super excited to see if they will come to life again. Last pic is my whopping pile of 3. :) Serial numbers posted to for anyone who knows how to figure them out. lol

Homelite reading ut and serial number.jpeg year of mfg Homelite.jpg

I believe the 770G was made in 1962 from the IPL's I have.
Homelite changed the S/N numbering system a few times over the years.

I have put the Acetone and trannyfluid mix in them and let them sit for a few days. Then take a heat gun or a torch and warm up the cylinder to get things moving.
I've had them where the recoil was froze up and holding everything tight too.

seafoam is some good stuff.
Acetone and trannyfluid 50/50 is awesome
+1 on the Acetone and trannyfluid 50/50

+2 Never failed to unlock rusted piston rings with this concoction. Once after a good soak, you get it to wiggle just a little bit back and forth, and it's all over after that.

I freed up a seized poulan 3700 with PB blaster and it only took about 5-6 hours and it freed up where you could turn it over with the starter.

I've never tried to free a piston with seafoam but I did soak a nasty gummed up carb in it and it didn't do squat for me. I'd go with another choice mentioned before long. Kroil would be my first choice.

Sure fire method that it will either come or bleed .First use some type penetrating oil for about a week .Then knock the center out of an old spark plug and braze a grease zert in it .A grease gun puts out 5000 PSI,that piston will either move or blow the cylinder off .You can use oil in the gun instead of grease and get the same results----if the piston is above the ports or it won't work .
I just did this maybe early this spring on a Partner P100 that is in the Partner section with pictures .

Soaking both saws with sea foam deep creep right now. Will check them in a few days. If that doesn't work I'll try PB blaster....if that don't work....marvel mystery oil....if that don't work.....cylinders are coming off and gonna have to see inside better. Funny thing is I have the sea foam, pb blaster, and marvel oil all on the shelf. Be interesting to see if one works better than the other.

Easy on the Marvel Mystery Oil right now. Unless you have some old, known to be good laying around. There's currently a recall on it. Metallic particles or some such in it.
