So I picked up an 038 Magnum today for $50. The previous owner said it had a cooked piston, turns out he was right.

It did however come more or less complete. Box o parts:

Look at this beauty :)

It also came with a bonus saw! Only missing an air filter, and probably needing some fresh rubber bits. I love the old logo!

So far I know I'm looking for some parts...

038M:
Piston and perhaps cylinder
Fuel line
Impulse line
New plastic covers, these are roached and marked for a tree crew

015:
Air filter
Rubber bits (?)

That thing cooked itself from a plugged up muffler . If there's any transfer clean it out .Polish the piston up,new rings run it . I've got an 024 that about cooked it's self from the same .All I did was gut the muffler ,retuned and ran it on 32 to 1 ratio and have as yet to have a problem with it .Fact for only 42 cc's it does quite well .--might not be a bad idea to see why it cooked itself .

That's encouraging! I hoped someone might happen along and confirm that suspicion of mine. I'm still new, but it didn't look like lean/straight gas scoring.

Cant tell for sure until its cleaned up pics are not as good as being there. You can try first if you want or send it if you need help.

I'll definitely defer to the experts on this one! I've not done cylinder cleanup before, and don't believe I'm ready quite yet :)

Is there any way for me to verify this is a Magnum without calipers handy? My set are currently on loan to a buddy. I'd like to confirm it isn't a plastics-swapped saw before I send this cylinder for rehab.
