I gotta get me one of those 262XP's (as if I need another saw). I ran my vintage Husky 257 today using the same chain with a 20" bar. I also had to noodle cut the rounds to save my back when loading and splitting. This chain worked very well. After six buck cuts and six noodles, it still had an edge.

It seems that the 257 running 3/8" pitch chain burps the noodles out better (less clogging) than the 51 running .325" pitch. Not sure why. Both saws have about the same cutting speed when bucking.

You rang20190726_162657.jpgi have 10 loops of upstart 72dl 3/8 chisel been running it two year's now.
Cut's ok out of box handfile really wakes it up
It self feeds good at 25 degrees
I won't buy anything else 11.00 shipped per loop
If you buy 4 or so.
My firewood seller buddy wants 10 more loops
He has 4 i got him two year's ago.
Him and several other's i got it for swear by it
Easy to file how you like
About like Oregon hardness.
The .325 is doing good on my neighbors 290
Not the best there is but 3 time's cheaper than stihl loops here.
Don't offer longer lengths sucks
Archer 84dl still doing great20190723_180510.jpg
After a handfile.

Good to know. I've seen it on eBay dirt cheap. I'll have to give it a try.

Yes. TY
The more I run it, the better it gets. My tune is still a bit on the rich side. I guess I gotta lean it a bit more...

Like this Archer chain. The more voodoo one does to the cutters, the better it gets...lol

I have two Archer loops and I can't get myself to like them.
They do OK, but they just don't feel right.

They are both miles ahead of the *s-wordty TriLink loops I got off German eBay though.
I felt the same way till i figured out to sharpen a little more aggressive than i do my stihl chain ,the archer is pretty hard on files compared to oregon ,it held a good edge for me cutting stumps off though ,stuff did stretch a little more than stihl chain ,i do like the rakers on .404 ,reminds me of the old style rslf ones.

No hurry Wilhelm
This is the Archer loop that came with my PS-7300 back in 2017, factory grind - obviously it doesn't look like this anymore.

I took it off the saw and replaced it with a modified Oregon Vanguard, this Archer loop is sitting in a box for now.

Rework the cutters with how you normally file your chain and post a photo. Put the reworked chain in some wood. Make that chain cut!!! [emoji16]

I have tried on the elder Archer loop, I file it the same as all my other chains and I just don't like it.
I'll take pictures of the filed cutters and post them.

I am in no mood to mess with the new Archer loop after not getting the old one right.

I have found some pictures on my PC.
This is pretty much the chains current state, way back in January I gave it a try with a dremel type straight shaft grinder - I still didn't like the result and haven't used it since.

Come to think of it, I rarely ever use my Dolmar PS-7300 because of this stupid loop!

It is time to kill it and toss it in the recycle bin!
I have at least one extremely muddy firewood log that should help things along nicely in that regard. devil.gif
