My daughter's car......92 model. Suddenly started reving to 3500 rpm, then down to nearly dying, then back to 3500....

I've found that these models cut the injectors in an effort to control surging, and the like. So I did the usual cleaning of cold idle valves etc....no help.

Can't find any vacuum leaks large enough to cause this.

Video uploading.

Can't give you any specific advise on fixing that issueing but if you are looking online maybe check out some of the Honda Civic forums. Pretty sure they are the same power plant as the Civic Vtec.

IIRC, there is an adjustment in the idle air control valve. Usually requires a large, flat head screwdriver to turn. Only have to move it a small amount either way, for the idle to smooth out.

Yeah. Found that yesterday. None of it helped. I'm convinced it has a bad vacuum leak, but I can't find it.

Need younger eyes, and smaller hands.

Mine only does it on colder days (below 50 ish)

Maybe put about 4 chainsaw carbs on it and do away with that electric stuff.

Have you tried the ol carb cleaner trick yet?

If you were to spray wd 40 or something on tje line whould it help to detect tje spot. Might change idle if it sucks in sone wd 40?

I’ve owned 2. Bought the current one in 95 and still have it.

I would think a vacuum leak (especially a massive one) would just rev the motor without the surge up and down. I’ve never experienced that issue though. I’d guess iac valve acting funny or an ecu issue.
@Wagnerwerks might have some input.

I agree with Wolverine, vacuum leaks tend to cause high idle, and not that much surge. I don't know if I have ever seen one with that much rpm increase/decrease before.
If you disconnect the idle air control valve, will it stay at a steady rpm?
How are the grounds? Being in the rust belt in Wisconsin, I see bad grounds cause some really weird crap.

Disregard! I see you posted while I was typing!

First time I saw that happen!
