Time to resurrect an old junk yard dog. Really wanted to go with a 54mm but it blows 175 and cylinder and piston are near perfect. Saw must have been scrapped for no spark. When I pulled it apart I found the wire between the 2 coils was broken so hopefully it will have spark when I put it back together and replace the wire. I have always wanted a 288 but a 281 will work for now. She's getting a box of new parts. Fun winter project.20181118_144408.jpg

Well I decided to play with the meteor cylinder I picked up for this saw prior to getting it in hand, didn’t want to eat up my oem cylinder being the second cylinder I’ve ever ground on. First one was a trashed 271 cylinder from one of the local dealers.
I didn’t degree it since I wasn’t looking to change timing yet. Squish was .022 with no base gasket. Didn’t check compression yet, chamber looks a bit larger than the OEM though.

It’s not pretty, but here it is!407BF792-543D-4355-9838-0E1B831D14F9.jpeg

I'm not sure what brand my 288 muffler is but I bought it from HL Supply and it's the pipe outlet style. Completely hollow inside and seems to be descently made. I can't comment yet on long term service life as I just plain haven't run my 288 that much yet.

Nothing wrong with a 281! I want to build one also.
