Check the spade connector at the secondary coil. Had a similar issue on my 288 last year and it was caused by a loose connection on that signal wire. Worth a look before you get deep into it.

Connections were tight. I had 2ohms between the case and the coil ground wire going to the kill switch when the switch was in run position. In stop position it was .001 ohms. Now just waiting on carb kit.

Check the spark plug and see if it's wet or dry.

Dry. There is some moisture coming out the compression release hole. But the plug is no where near flooded condition.

The funny thing is, the cylinder does get warm when running the electric start. That’s why I feel it’s not getting enough fuel.

Yep sounds like it's starving for fuel for sure. Is the inlet screen clogged by chance in the carb?

×2 my 288 would idle fine but woultimately only rev to about 8 grand before it sounded like it was hitting a limiter. Found a loose connector.

Thanks Josh I was hopeing for a miss but dont look like that's going to happen.

I was gonna say something of the effect “keep the chains sharp and full of gas, cause you’ll need it” but with an 8-11 foot storm surge and 3’ of rain. I think a good boat would be in order. Or a submarine

Has anyone here bought one of the Huztl/Farmertec 288 clutch covers?
Is the quality good, durable and is the color a close match?

The actual am magnesium cover is good itself on the 394 one I bought, but the internal spring is about 1” shorter than oem. So the chainbrake didn’t work properly (tripped too easily and didn’t hold good). I had to put a Oem spring on it. Works great now. The am brake flag broke within a short amount of time. Weak plastic. I installed a Oem brake flag. It’s been good now. However, after going through all this I’d try to find a good used Oem one before buying another am one. 1018A1FA-8DFD-4F54-A330-FB7DA8584516.jpeg
