Just picked up the muffler from the powder coat shop! Oh my does it look sweet! Best Husky muffler I have ever seen. How does a 31 year old Husky muffler not have any dents?

That's real nice.
Another option to powder coating is to use the spray paint used for wood heaters, here a a 2100cd muffler I did a while back.

That muffler looks real nice also! Can you post a pic of the can or let us know the brand of paint?

This is what I used, it wasn't as black as I would have liked, had a slight brown tinge in the right light, but very easy to apply, I gave each coat a day to dry and then fitted and ran the saw to bake the paint as per instructions.

I’ve heard a grommet from a 455 works. Some one smarter than me correct me if I’m wrong.
Update: the 455 grommet worked perfectly. I wish I could've got some pics but I did it with the tank in place so there was really nothing to see. Hell I could barely see what I was doing. Lol

A little grease on the grommet and some fiddling with a set of roach clips got it seated properly. I prefer the pig tail line so to me this was a worthwhile upgrade.

Good to know. I wonder if this would have worked on my 266? It just got a new line, but will go this route next time.

Finally got time to finish up the 288xp today. Special thanks to @ranchdadmike for the sweet low-top cover. Way cooler than all you high-top nerds.

And now that she runs, I totally understand what you guys are talking about with the idle sound. Right up there with my 041 for “best thump”.

Oh, and I also understand what you mean about starting it without the decomp. Dayum!

All new rubber, Meteor piston w/ Caber ring, cleaned up OEM Mahle cylinder, SKF bearings, 1/64” cylinder gasket for .022 squish.

Can’t wait to put her in wood...

I’ll be honest, aesthetically the low top wins. With the high-top it looks more like a cinder block. I hqve a low top and when I tried another guy’s high top on it, I didn’t like it.

It should be able to use the newer style caps like on a 372. The newer ones have a much better o ring that doesn’t leak with age as easily. Oem cap is cheap enough I wouldn’t bother with a aftermarket one. A dealer near you should have them.

Thanks for the advice, contacted the Husky dealer and a genuine cap was only $13, it's a newer look style and fits real nice.

Hey Jon is this the thump your talking about? Haven't heard another saw that has that sound.
