I dont think you would be happy with all springs on a 288. It would feel spongy/soft, no feel for how the saw is running/cutting. Not only that, the throttle linkage wont work right if the tank/trigger moves too much compared to the case/carb. It wont get full throttle on the up cut if you're pulling on it very hard cuz the springs will flex too much.
I see what you're saying about the throttle but on my unmolested 288 lite (4 springs in back) that hasn't been an issue. While it does feel a little more spongy, it is quite a bit smother than the 288's I have with 6 rubbers and the 7th mount. You really do feel them.
I suppose it just comes down to personal preference.

Thanks!! I’ve been looking for a hitop for quite awhile...finally found a super nice fella that was willing to part with some nos stuff. I’m just a little happy with it. Now I gotta build a saw to wear all of it!
