Finally found some Saw again had the recoil shield 8.79
If you ever need them.
I've got two on the way to finish my friends saw's.
One is a house warming gift for my friend we are building a house for
He doesn't know about the saw.
Can't wait to give it to him.

That doesn't look like the correct shroud to me. I'll get a pic of mine to compare.

Best house warming gift ever!

You've got the right one @Czed , didn't look right too me at first. Not enough coffee yet I guess. Not sure I would like my coil wires not being supported over the top where yours is broken though.

My flywheel screwed up again! Didn't shear the key this time, 3 consecutive fins busted off after running it for 2 tanks. I'm guessing the damage was done when it sheared the key and I didn't spot the cracks. I'm gonna put a dial indicator on my crank just to be sure there isn't some freak bend that's tearing up the flywheel.

Swapped this sombitch out and my saw is up and running again. Also took the time to drill my cover for the decomp. Call me a heretic if you want, but I didn't like the feel of the extra tension on the starter without it. Took my time, measured several times and it came out perfect.

I don't dare pull mine over without pressing the magic blue button first. The starter pulley on a 288 is a little small and doesn't give you a lot of torque.

The one I had ported didnt have a magic blue button. I tried drop starting it a few times and learned quickly to start it on the ground and find the compression stroke.

@mdavlee had a name for the "magic" blue button. But I'm not ashamed to say that I have to use that button to cold start the 385 that he built me.

Got to put your purse down and pull. I built 2 non decomp 288s over 225 lbs. My dad and his friend thought it was locked up. I started it and give it back. My 62mm 880 still doesn't have a decomp. If I never race cold start it won't get one

Ditto on the compression stroke. My old 181 had this non decomp issue.

Found what busted my flywheel. Noticed some thread marks on one of the busted fins, some A-hole forgot to tighten the filter elbow bolt after he swapped it out and the bolt found its way into the flywheel area. Oops:mad:
