The 394 WJ39, WJ70 or WJ71 can be fitted to a 288. You have 2 options for the throttle linkage.

1) Run a 181 throttle lever that uses a link.
2) Weld on a roller.

I chose to weld on an extension plate and stainless stud to the carb lever and then made an aluminum roller for it.

Stock carb on left, customized WJ70 on right.

Nice work Shaun, thanks for posting. How'd it run? Was the upgrade worth the time spent to modify the carb?

I think it's very worth it. I even swap 2100's over to a 394 carb. The bore is a little bigger but the real advantage is the nozzle. The older carbs just have a jet hole and the atomization of the fuel is not great. There was a few years of the 288 with an EPA carb that had a nozzle and no rev limiter, all the limited models have a jet hole.

Here is the saw running.

Awesome info thanks! I know that video very well, I probably watched it 20 times while I was waiting for my builder to arrive...that 288 rips, great work.

I am guilty of the same, a "cereal" watcher I suppose! Every time I Google something 288 , this and several others pop up and I don't get anything done, do you reckon I could be reimbursed for time lost by videographer....

I like em all, yours included!
Although I believe that my wife preferred the dirt bike videos ( Moto series)that I watch only because they generally have some music for filler between the technical stuff, but if I really want to push her buttons I can play a couple of recording's of my old drag cars or my buddies AHDRA Bike, I am fairly sure that even the neighbors may have an opinion on those.
So like you said reimbursement not necessary, paid in full with the 2stroke currency...
