That slow idling sound is incredible...But does it keep idling in work? Mine have to set at about 2700 rpm to get it idle good when out of cut and good a restart... Yours sounds like it is idling at about 2200 rpm, if i set mine like that it tends to die out of cut when release the throttle. Sometimes won't hot start without pressing the throttle a bit.

Well, good news and bad. I sat her up on her ass for a while to let the chassis drain. But... it never drained, stuff kept pouring out. I removed the fuel line and the pouring stopped. The carb is bad.
Anyone got a spare? This is an aftermarket carb. Though it served me well for two years, I won't be making that mistake again - and I won't bother rebuilding it. Odd how the Tillotson is made in Tralee, a few ours from me, but no one locally has one. Typical. I think I have the original buried somewhere in a shed in waterford I'll hunt for.

Isn't there also a Walbro option? Like a 117?

You can catch an OEM tilotson on sale through HL Supply for $35 if you’re willing to wait. Comes up on deal of the day semi often.

Not sure on the 117 but I know Shaun Carr can mod a 394 carb for use on the 288 for a nice upgrade

I think the best direct bolt on is the Tillotson HS228C, but I've made a Walbro WJ39/70/71 fit with a little machining and welding.

I sent some email to Tillotson down over in Tralee. Perhaps they still at least have a rebuild kit. This is provided I find the original carb...I also asked if they had an HS-228C laying about, but I think we know what our chances are there.

Well whatttaya know - first thing this morning they had a lad checking email:

Hello Wesley,

Thank you for your email.

The HS-228C is available and also the repair kit for that model RK-23HS is available.

The kit can be purchased on our website if you want to try that first.

Thanks,

Kind Regards,
Mr Shane O'Connell

Not a prob, I hope you enjoy it, look forward to seeing that saw come together.
I will certainly enjoy wearing it, but hopefully not for about 8 more months! I just finished my DC drive conversion on my lathe today, and next is a set of gates for a contractor, then hopefully my 288 is up after that. I will certainly post a few pics once I am able to make some more progress.

Probably a dumb question but will the single piece oil pump gear fit this pump that had a 2 piece dust cover and gear?20190407_190947.jpg

I’ve been curious about that myself, not a dumb question at all. Does the 1 piece fit the outer recess of the pump housing? The 262 family of saws don’t interchange, dust seal recess is different size between gear and drum drive oil pumps. So with them you need to swap everything over to convert. Wonder if the 288 is the same.
