Anyone know if then can get a brizillian 288xp new. Or should I be looking at a 390 to fulfill my 288 NIB dreams.

I think ajschainsaws can get malaysian 288's NIB. Whether he could drop ship and get it thru customs, I dunno. Also, it's not 1990, so the prices are in line with newer saws. Mebbe PM him.

Thanks but I think I’ll pass for now. I was more of a question of curiosity.

Not a 288, but a fine 281...still gathering some parts to get her finished. Done gone and lost a couple I had for it...thanks @rattler

Very nice. A 281 will likely be my next saw. I ran a friends last year and I gotta say, it didn’t feel like it was underpowered compared to my 288, was very close.

Only 6cc's difference between the two, and the 281's tend to have much higher compression stock. My 288 top end is far easier to start than my 281 top end. I went to a 288 for that specific reason. My 281 top end is stronger, but I did massage the upper transfers on that one, and I think the exhaust is a touch higher with more timing. On the 288, I left them alone, and added some intake for more mid range grunt.

@rattler be the man! I can tell you first hand that my 281 he did is just as strong as my 288 he did, I like it so much he is doing my "loaner saw" 281 this week, they are very snappy when. He is done!

This is on my last 281xp the moment I had her together, before any run time at all. Squish at .031, and I am at maybe 300' altitude near a river, so nice cool and dense air here:
