I'm trying a simple rubber band on my HD (High-Dust) ms261 filter. Its kinda helping.1540612319402174277987.jpg And removed the dust infection elbow and stuffed some rag in the port.1540612463620-801862199.jpgHonestly though, sawdust ingestion is not a real concern, I strip down this saws every 6ish months to properly clean as I don't run synthetics & I haven't seen any evidence of wear on a saw pushing 200+hrs.

I clean air filters on average 3-6 times every day of my life.

I can take a soft bristle brush and clean off the flocked filter for a 261 in about 10 seconds and the filter looks new again, on the HD2 if it packs good enough I gotta sit there and dick around with a carb screwdriver and tap it out on a log.

Maybe they are different in Australia.

nope they are the same as I get mine from the us .... now as I run the pre filter and the only thing that gets in is dust all I do is tap out and good to go and at the end of the day soak in straight gas for a few mins and you cant tell the difference from that filter and a new one out of the bag ......

Must be the different kinds of wood. Green vs. Dead, Hard vs. Soft, etc.
The chips and saw dust are making it by the filter.

I didn't have any fines getting past the filter seal in the first 50ish hrs. I never get chips in the filter pleats when its time to clean filter, only super fine sawdust. I was finding fines on the black plastic intake manifold and evidence of two areas that were leaking. The fines will fill the top and bottom of the filter most, the sides not as much. Same thing happening on my other stock ms261 & did on the one I owned & sold about to year ago that had a good few hundred hours. For the first 50-100 hours the were not leaking, it tends to get worse with run time. I'm not to concerned really fine wood dust in tiny quantities ain't as big of an issue as many on forums make it out to be. Silica, sand and charcoal dust are more of a concern. I clean them out 4/5 tanks of fuel, many other saws have worse filter systems but these hd2 filters could be greatly improved mainly how they seal and are locked down. Its good yours are all good, my 3 saws ive owned both German & USA made
all eventually failed.

There was a lot of sarcasm in my post.

Those filters look like they work perfectly to me
Ah, cool. :)

Except regarding the sealing between the AF halves and the carb seating I have no complaints.
I counteract the sealing matter with a thin layer of grease.
I do admit the engineers could have resolved that matter during the two decades these units are in production.
