A Husqvarna 272xp build

A complete rebuild and customization of my favorite saw the 272xp for a friend here on OPE Forum.
Started with a fresh coat of genuine Husqvarna orange paint.


The masking takes up the time.

Nothing matches better than the real thing.
Takes about three good coats to cover.

Once the paint is dry enough to remove the masking tape without damaging the finish, it's ready to be baked in the oven at 170°F for about an hour or so. When removed and allowed to cool slowly, the enamel finish turns hard and durable.

Missed a spot.

Before the bar studs are pressed back in the bar pad is re-flattened and the case halves trued slightly on a piece of glass with sandpaper stuck on it.

The SKF bearings were microwaved and slid on the crankshaft. Then a Husqvarna puller was used to coax the assembly into the cases.

Blue loctite on the case screws to help keep them in place.

A Meteor piston was chosen to use, these work out well for a high performance work saw.

The cylinder was cleaned up by media blasting.

Now the cylinder can be checked for squish clearance, timed and mapped.

Now the machining can be done, here (top right) it is with some others being done.

Now it gets re-timed and a plan to port it is hatched and executed.

OEM seals were driven in with the aid of a Husqvarna tool on the flywheel side to get the depth correct

I found the southern aerosols paint to be spot on color-wise, but not be very gas resistant. Maybe baking it cures it better, but 2 days after air drying a rag wiped it off.

Those are some nice Husky tools you’ve got.

Slid on a brand new Tillotson carburetor topped off with the trial AM HD filter unit.

Also wired in a spring return kill switch.

The clutch is a more modern C spring unit and even though AM I consider it an upgrade. The muffler with a tree monkey deflector rounds out the AM parts used to build this saw.

An NGK plug was chosen that indexed to light the fire as the last detail.
I will have the saw at Monkey Fest if anyone wants to check out the new air filter that is being made for these saws by HL Supply, hopefully they come to market soon.
Will also be test firing it for the first time and setting it up as well.
Edit: Will be at Sausage Fest as well.

It's made for timing Sea-Doo's. The thing I like about it other than it's small, it goes 360 in both directions.
Waiting for that certain someone to come along...
