My buddy's 2017 2500 HD puked the trans at 52k miles. The dealer has had it almost 3 months now “waiting on parts”. They gave him a 2018 1500 as a loaner; turd. Put almost 3k miles on it and they just gave him a brand new 2019 Z71 as a replacement loaner; has less than 200 miles on it and he hates it.

Love those 300 I6 engines. As long as you keep oil in them they will run forever.

There are people who put turbos on the I6, don’t see how it would hurt anything on the 300 other than the head gasket. Very popular mod on the Chrysler slant 6, make excellent power and can usually get complete engine from junk yard for under $100.


Im thinking your buddy is getting fed a truckload of chit.
Other than the case itself, torque converter and plantery gear sets, I'm pretty sure we have almost every other part in the 6L series trans on our shelves.

He is being told they are waiting on a cover. I don’t think its an Allison in his truck, 2500 6.0. Not sure why they would sit on it for almost 3 months, its warranty work.

If it's a 6.0, its not an allison. 6L95.
I will bet some fat stacks we have 2 pump covers. Most common failure right now. Stator support gasket blows out. They use some special fixture to center them. Problem is, somebody wasnt getting the bolts torqued properly..
Something always seems to happen similar to this in streaks. And its always when they change to a different part vendor/supplier/manufacturer. Then it gets fixed later and problem goes away.

My guess is they dont have a tech willing to man up and do the job. We have 2 like that.

If your flat rate, warranty blows.
GM cuts the times from regular Chilton or Motor or whatever time guides there are.

He needs to call the GM customer assistance number and just go off on whomever answers the phone.

And he is right stator gets messed up and takes out the pump which is one piece with the bell housing.
