I just returned home with a load of red oak. It’s just over a full cord and I still have room for more. No tricks, just a nice load @~5,500 lbs. The truck is not overloaded. It was built to carry wood. My pored 350 got to noodle most of it and ran beautifully. I had a friend along to help and he asked if I would sell it. I told him if he found a 350, I would build it for him.

Dude, we have the same truck. Here's mine with a cord of oak in it. rps20181015_194808_390.jpg

Mine's for sale if you want another one. It's got the 300-6.

Hey, that’s what mine used to look like! Lol
Mine has the 300-6 too. I love it. The body might be shot, but the rest is solid.
    Where are you located?

I'm in River Falls. I bought it out west. Needs a coat if wax, but it's a pretty sharp truck. Nice to work on unlike the stuff that's lived here forever.

That 6 in my opinion is the best one ever built.

I was gonna put it in Craigslist for $2500 planning on getting talked down a little. $2200 would make me happy, and I'd throw in a nice set of side boards and a leer topper for it. If I can't get $2000 for it, I'll just keep the thing. It's a great rig. Got 4 BF Gooodrich AT tires with 80% tread left.

I can’t swing that right now. I think you should keep it. You would regret selling it as soon as it left. I’ll ask my brother if he is interested in it.
It looks absolutely solid, and you’d be hard pressed to find another one.

A word about that engine .It started life as 240 cu inch iron engine built in Cleveland Ohio then was stroked to 300 .It produces max torque at around 1600-2000 rpm .Seven main bearing, gear driven camshaft ,no timing chain .Forged crankshaft . Strictly a truck engine never built as a car engine .Used on just about anything you can imagine, dump trucks, wood chippers, air compressors ,you name it .
If memory serves in around 1996 the engine along with the other iron engines were phased out .Some of the Cleveland machinery was shipped to Lima and reworked . I had a hand in some of it .Regarding the big iron V8's ,371,429 ,460 my name is on all of them ,last ones .Some are at the Henry Ford Museum some at the Smithsonian .

I was told once that the 300 6 was used in UPS trucks. Is this true?

Had many 300 6's...one of my favorite engines. Plowing snow, towing trailers, etc. does it all with out skipping a beat. You won't win any races but the engine is a real work horse and runs forever. I've had a few with close to 300k miles. Kinda wish I could find another solid one.

My brother has a few laying around. I have considered putting a diesel in my truck, but the weight and winter fuel issues make the 300 a better choice.

I was working with my brother last week to figure out how to set up a turbo on his. We’re getting close to making flanges and intake piping.

About the 300, I can’t agree more on the reliability. Currently I think the GM 6.0 is about as tough as it gets, put 265k on this one without a wrench to it.

I have the sister to your truck, I have the snowplow prep package and 5k airbags in the back. I have had it loaded to the top of the cab with hedge apple. Here it is with a 14k skid steer and post driver in bed. 676CB137-7EDB-4CC1-A94A-54E5BA72A0C3.jpeg 9C40CDF3-755E-4BA8-A0D6-037DE580BE64.jpeg

They are damn good trucks. Bulletproof drivetrain. The new half tons are a joke but GM is still building these 3/4 tons to be good work trucks yet.

The first 100k mine belonged to a tree service in Virginia as a lease, it got returned and I got it two years ago to replace my new half ton gmc that couldn’t stay out of the shop for warranty and recalls. I have put 50k on it with out doing anything except routine maintenance.

My buddy's 2017 2500 HD puked the trans at 52k miles. The dealer has had it almost 3 months now “waiting on parts”. They gave him a 2018 1500 as a loaner; turd. Put almost 3k miles on it and they just gave him a brand new 2019 Z71 as a replacement loaner; has less than 200 miles on it and he hates it.

Love those 300 I6 engines. As long as you keep oil in them they will run forever.

There are people who put turbos on the I6, don’t see how it would hurt anything on the 300 other than the head gasket. Very popular mod on the Chrysler slant 6, make excellent power and can usually get complete engine from junk yard for under $100.
