Very cool and informative thread. Makes me wanna start looking for my 064 project, but I gotta work muh saws right now.
I personally don’t see the point in getting an 064... a 288xp is a better saw, and it looks like you’ve already got one of them. :)

I need to run a good 288. I'm in the opposite camp on this as you. I have and really like 064's. The only 288 I've ever ran was a slug in the power department. I've become jaded to the legend of the 288 since then.

Nope no boat...but even if I did, I got a couple 075's hangin out around the garage I'd dedicate as anchors befor an 0 deuce fo. I keep a 24 with a hedge clippers attachment. They're handy little engines.

I've seen those hedge clipper attachments -- they are absolutely neato (and very rare I might add).

Just want to diversify my humble collection. I’d like an 064 because it has a reputation similar to the 288 amongst the Stihl bros.

I here ya on that. Until recently my stock 288 never really blew my socks off because of the power, I simply liked how it felt and how it would lug down but keep on cutting with its old school power. A few weeks ago I changed the rim from an 8 to a 7 pin...what a difference! My 288 is much happier with a 7 pin sprocket and cuts like an animal now.

I think 066 vs 394 is an unfair comparison. 066/660 land right in between 390 and 394/5 in displacement. There’s really no fair way to compare them in my opinion. Would you compare a 372 to a 461??? Nope, different class of saw. Like Jeff said, they’re all great cutting big dawgs, I’d proudly own any one of them.

And yet people compare the 288 (87cc) and the 066/MS 660 (91.6cc) all the time.
