Got home from Chicago and the Pens game is on the 2nd internission! Took my saw down to the bench and it's a USA saw also! Had to take the top cover to the laundry tub and see what was under the crud! Wow! Looked at the difference of the 024 and 026 clutch covers! Second pic has an 026 cover in it.

Take the air filter off and post a pic mostly the left side. The right side is fine I can see the part the air filter cover rides in.

See if the left side has the plastic tab
and where the filter cover rides.

A pic of what you're looking for. Crappy pic but it's the only pic I have that shows that side.

It's interesting that the recoil housings are different between your USA saw and the OPs USA saw

Dan and I are texting back and forth. Dan suggested that my 024 might have a recoil from an 026 and helped me figure out my clutch cover is from an 026. As saws often get dropped, bashed, fall off trucks and generally roughed up, it's not out of the realm of possibility that someone along the line swapped a couple of 026 parts onto this 024. This powerhead is exactly as I found it in the junk pile

If the part fits and functions as intended I say run the chit outta it;)

028 & 038 use that clutch cover too. Front vs. side chain tension for the chain. They're not uncommon unless you need NOS or something fancy. I knew there were different recoils, just never saw them side by side.

The 024 has a different flywheel than a 026 I think too. Less fins I believe. The 024 I’ve worked on usually have a tillotson and 026 have a walbro. Lot of little differences but I think a lot is interchangeable.

At this time, Josh and I are starting to concentrate on getting all the family's wood done so shop time is going to be limited to bad weather days. However, when we get our next bad weather day, I'm going to be tearing into this 024 to get it cleaned up and compile a parts list. I don't know how long I can hold out NOT getting started on this. Lol! This friggen CAD is a major b-word!

Which reminds me, air filter covers: I'm guessing 026/260 covers interchange. Are there any other models that interchange with the 024 for the cover?? Same question for the ignition coil and the top half of the rear handle

I really need to get that thing fixed up again. Kept putting it on back burner for a while. I think it needs bearings. It sure ran good for the cc’s.

Also pretty sure the early saws have straight blade handle screws and the later models have the T27 torx spline drive handle screws

Yes my early 024 super west german saw has all flatheads and one bar nut.

My 024 has T27 hardware. I much prefer that to flathead :)

CAD? What's that? 260 has a style hump on the top of plastics that 024/6 doesn't have. I like the flat tops better.
