did you remember to put the square cut o-ring under the oil pump?
you don't have to remove the bar studs to remove the bar plate.
the brake spring is easer to install if the clutch drum is removed, and the brake is tripped.

couple of things to help you in the future

No I did not put the oring under the oil pump. I just saw that in another thread tonight and was going to do it to tomorrow but thanks of telling me.

I have to remove the bar studs to get the inner plate of because the holes do align just right.

I'll remember to trip the brake next time.

Nice set of assembly videos [emoji41]. They make me feel more confident that this was not a mistake for me. To this point I've put a 390 short block in my ms290 and put a big block kit in a seized Makita 6400.

I put the flat oring under the oil pump.

I removed the bar studs and the side plate. Then I reinstalled the bar studs and went to lay the side plate at the studs to see were it needed filed and it went on. I'm not sure why it would not fit before.

Thanks, if you have done a MS290 cylinder, you've got this covered.

There's a tall round looks like a small bushing that goes under the pump. With that small o ring it may leak, but it a not
