did you remember to put the square cut o-ring under the oil pump?
you don't have to remove the bar studs to remove the bar plate.
the brake spring is easer to install if the clutch drum is removed, and the brake is tripped.

There's a tall round looks like a small bushing that goes under the pump. With that small o ring it may leak, but it a notI put the flat oring under the oil pump.
I removed the bar studs and the side plate. Then I reinstalled the bar studs and went to lay the side plate at the studs to see were it needed filed and it went on. I'm not sure why it would not fit before.
