I love a good forged piston however many 2t OEMs in many different applications are using cast these days, and I believe its not all about cost. Don't wanna start a cast vs forge debate but the forged pistons will expand faster and that could spell cold sieze issues. The new cast compositions these days have a lot more silicon in them, can run tighter tolerances and are cost effective. I think the blue coating is similar to what KTM uses and other piston makers use these days. Wiseco calls it 'armour-glide' or something fancy. Running tighter clearences has its advantages as does using similar alloys that heat at similar speeds. Having said all that I'd be a sucker 4 a dominant piston. I think starting with a press/vac test & some calibers may give some answers to a poor fella left scratching his edd.

One more thought.......if the head to cyl wall is to tight. Will the different materials expand at different rates and cause the cyl to go out of round as they bind?
might explain why the plating is coming off at the top of the cyl.

This is a possibility, I'll post up some measurements in a little while

How much clearance do you think is sufficient?
I had a snug fit... hindsight i should have had .003 to .004....the problem is plating is very brittle and does not like to flex...i had plating at the top .080" "surrounded "by aluminium per say and it cracked causing more cracking and flaking down farther causing my issue...i will try to post a pic tonight when i get home

Im talking about head clearances into the cyl bore....not piston/cyl clearances

With .005-.008 clearance I don't see the head causing the plating to crack and flake
