That's it.
In the first pic you can see a gap in the intake side were it popped up to the top, where it beat the daylights out of the top of the piston and the chamber...
Till the ring hung in the exhaust.

Ah, I didn't catch the little notch in the crown on the first pic. One tiny little pin causes over $200 in damage. Hell of a thing!

I encountered this same issue on a 562xp that I bought blown up. Might this be a common husqvarna issue or have other also seen it on other brands? I only say that as I was doing some researching when repairing my 562xp and I found other people having similiar issues with the ring pin coming out.

The 575 & 576 saws are just plain problematic: I've heard of too much to ever buy one.

This issue has been documented on numerous occasion when diagnosing problems on the saws you mentioned.

I'd say the answer is Yes to your question.

Just When I almost start to consider buying a 562, I somehow find a new instance, or numerous instances, where another one now has problems.

What is the root cause? Ring moving in the gap, hammering the pin loose?

Edit; I guess ring flutter wouldn't be the root cause, because it is also a symptom.

I've experienced this same exact failure in snowmobiles. I've searched long and hard for a concrete explanation and have never found one. One of the most common explanations I've read were over revving.

I'd be interested to inspect bore & rings just before failure.
