Those are some big cookies lol.
You seem to be watching this thread close Dave, I thought you were all set on saws.
I have plenty of saws
I'll get one a 572 in a bucket eventually
That's how most saws come to me.
Want to try one
Been running 266 and 268 mostly lately.

@Cut4fun what model poulan colored jonsered is that you are talking about? Is it a 505 or something? That's pretty sweet to run all those different stipends like that on the same case. Suppose it's kinda the same with dollar and the 64cc 73cc and 79cc. I hope someone kills a 572 quick so I can play with one real soon. I'm still not a fan of auto or moronic. Only good for people like my brother that can't and won't tune any engine no matter what it is. He says if runs it must be tune good enough. Even after I tuned his good enough 490. He thought I ported it since it ran so much better.

I agree, west coast dogs don’t work great in east coast hardwood and take up a lot of bar. There’s a reason why they equip saws on west coast with big dawgs and east coast with smaller ones.

There are times I like the bigger d0gs, like when felling a tree with an irregular bottom, and there are times I don't so I have different saws set up differently.

For Example, one Hybrid has the 661 R dogs on it, another has a smaller set of dogs on it.

The r models of the 660/661 (same standard spike) have a longer tooth on the bottom Mike if I’m not mistaken. Same for just about any “west coast” style spike. More leverage and “sticking” abilities for large thick barked Doug fir or other softwoods they cut out west using the “humbolt” style notch for example. The wrap bar is also designed for use out west where guys can’t always reach the other side of the tree and have to cut from one side. For the low cuts we do on east coast they tend to hinder you and the spikes are too aggressive. Just imho... they do look cool though.

I liked the looks of the old school standard 064 dogs, notice how the bottom tooth points up like mike says? Look about perfect. Never tried them on any saw though. They look a bit smaller than standard 661/395 dogs. A73ECB9B-7414-4314-8553-1FE635CB2E99.jpeg

Here's the ones that were on my 064 when I got it. I like the 4 tooth ones.

That long bottom spike is a great pivot and makes your notch cuts meet.
As Mike said on a flared trunk they are especially nice, on my lightweight saws with short bars I like small dawgs for the reach.
I find that running an aggressive chain with big spikes can take a bit of getting used to.
The good thing is I'm not usually far from the truck and have various saws setup for different needs with me.

Why do I feel like I want an 064 now?
