Anyone tinkered around with the 562 oil pump? If so, are there any improvements that can be made to increase oil flow to the tail of the bar?

My @awol 562 pulls a 24 really well and the ES light helps with balance, but I am not getting enough oil. I have modified the pump on a couple of Dolmar 7900s but haven't ripped this one apart, wondering if it is worth my time

@shorthunter Nothing wrong with the oiler. The bar oil holes are tiny on stihl/oregon bars. Open them up with a slightly larger drill bit and deburr them. Mine pisses oil off a 24” tsumura. Awol is a great guy, ported my 562 as well.

Before and after on oregon powermatch. Same problem as the stihl bars. I opened this one mildly. D0EB8044-8EAB-4ACA-9C5B-EF2AE41EEE76.jpegE3D8B1D0-6F4C-478B-92C0-D0BA2B426601.jpeg

I drilled all mine out to 9/32. Work much betterer.
Same size as the Tsumuras I think.

NOT 9/32, It is 5/32.

9/32 sounds a little large.
It would get the oil out though.
1/4=8/32

Now i need to go look at oil holes.

Does sound big, maybe it was 7/32? I will check my bits when I can and report back.

7/32 way too big. Whatever the tsumura or sugi stock hole size is... is perfect. Stihl/oregon too small.

I'm gonna try these bosch cobalt bits I got. But I tore up a lot dremel and drill bits trying to enlarge the oiler hole on a tsumura. I'd like a little more output out of my 562 oiler but would like to try a bar mod first. Once the weather breaks in the NE I'll report back.

We run 28 and 32s a lot here out west on 562s. I like to mod the oil pumps on mine. I just put a steeper ramp on the plunger. They will run the oil tank dry before your out of gas so you have to pay attention. In average wood I just set it in the middle position.

Don’t drill out the bar hole. There optimized pretty good from the factory. Drilling it out too big just reduces the oil pressure at the hole making it easier to clog. At least from what I have tried.

That really depends on the saw or pump imo.
660 HO needs a bit bigger hole than these stingy epa jobs have now days. My big saws have a big hole but keeping the angle steep and taking the bur off the nose is the hardest part. The bur causes the clog.
Testing with a very old hard nose Sugi bar had the best feed and it's a large hole drilled straight through the bar. You notice how much oil you do or don't have bore cutting with a hard nose. The saws will use more oil with that bar. I did this test maybe ten years ago with no oil pump mod.
