Ah, so that's how they do it.
I used to be a hard core snowmobiler..then sleds got real expensive, gas prices got crazy, and I had kids...
My last sled was an 04 Ski-doo Mxz-x I had spring ordered in 03. Since I sold that, I have not even looked under the hood of a sled!

I would assume some type of supply pump would be required to the injector? A bigger stator than required for just heated handles will for sure be needed.

Do the injectors still fire off 12v then?
If they are, they cant be using as much pressure as I thought they would.

Maybe they should pull a page from the Ford HPOP book and used pressurized bar oil to fire the injectors! :zpong:
I am not sure on all of those questions. As far as I am aware, the fuel pump is basically the same as what you had on your '04. I remember seeing some videos that showed the basic principles of how it works.

My last three sleds were a '99 Mach-Z, '01 MXZ700 and an '02 MXZ800. Sold all three 6 or 7 years ago. The first ETEC sleds came out in '08 if I recall. I was heavily into them at that time, very active on Dootalk keeping up with all the latest stuff. I had even sourced a 780 triple Mach-Z mill and the Jaws conversion pipes and whatnot to convert my '02 MXZ to a 780 triple. Then just like your situation, life forces you into taking adulting more seriously and thinning the herd of expensive hobbies.. lol!

Here ya go Redline. This vid gives a good basic summary of how it works, albeit a bit older of a vid. Makes me wonder what they are up to these days??

I think as tech advances and these DI systems get more and more compact, it will be the saving grace of two-stroke saw engines just as it was with sleds.

@RIDE-RED 350r my 04 was carbed. There was the more expensive option to get the injected version at the time, but it was in it's infancy at the time and I wanted no part of it. Time to ride was short as it was, and I didnt want to be sitting on the trail due to some new type of voodoo!
Interesting video. It would definately make for some intesting "packaging" having it in a small/medium chassis saw.

Yes, I believe it was the 600HO SDI if I remember correctly

Them guys need to do a 500 vs 661

no need 661 will beat it handily and cost less doing so as it should the 661 is over 90cc
its 80cc they added fuel injection not a turbo lol
I would like to see it against good running stihl 461, husky 181/281, and the solo 681 and dolmar makita 7900/7910's in hardwood 20-28 inches

I'm looking at it from a marketing point. One should have their new product chasing down the big dogs. Not out running smaller cc saws

I would rather see them show its improvements over the 461 of similar displacement that's being discontinued than competing (and losing) against there own currently selling larger displacement products
I UNFAIRLY overhyped this saw for myself thinking the fi would somehow magically make this 80cc saw produce 15hp. And was disappointed when the video showed more realistic performance. I realize now its still an 80cc saw and produces power accordingly

After I compare the specs of the MS500i vs MS661C....I know which one I'd rather handle 8 hrs a day, 5 days a week with a 28" b/c.

MS500i almost 3 lbs lighter and power difference is less then a half h.p.
7.2 - 6.8 = 0.4 h.p.
16.3 - 13.6 = 2.7 lbs.

It's a step in a good direction though. :)

Nobody ever thought EPA would start regulating emissions on things like snowmobiles and ATVs but they did. And thanks solely to DI, Ski-Doo is still able to sell 2-stroke powered sleds when much of the competition stared focusing on 4-stroke engine developement. This will happen with saws too, mark my words. This new 500i is the second step toward full DI systems that will allow the existence of 2-stroke powered saws to continue. Kudos to Stihl :)

I saw some Chinese made 4 stroke saws over on Chainsaw Repair forum, and they weren't heavy.

Lots of talk and assumptions as usual. Let's wait until we get our hands on the saw before making assumptions.

yes I want to see one on a scale. too many inaccurate specs from the manufacturers. that's why I was waiting to see a video of how one ran in wood

All of this is pretty much meaningless to me these days. How the saw is in my hands cutting wood will tell the real story. Internet hype, specifications and comparisons videos hold little to no weight with me. Why? Because I know better.[emoji6][emoji111] Don't get me wrong I like watching the videos, I've made some myself, but you really have no clue until you get the tool in hand IMHO.
