So why then does a big bore on a 660 not work as well as one would expect. There must be some other voodoo magic going on inside a hybrid .;)
Because, as Deets says, AM sucks.

Besides poorly designed transfers, the bigger bore itself takes away transfer tunnel space. So they are smaller AND poorly designed.

An MS460 jug has much larger transfers than an MS440 jug. The entire jug is wider to compensate. That’s why one must do work to the outside of the jug and the base to make it fit the smaller 440 case.

Those things are a problem because the piston was cut shorter to clear the case instead of letting builders have the option to clearance the case to make room for the piston. There's a good 1/8 inch exhaust freeport under the piston at tdc.

Its still baffles me on how you are able to keep the jug centered when elongating the cylinder base holes, and how do you cut those holes? Have a 044 12mm bottom end and 046 d chamber jug at work i want to tinker with.

Also have the old style flywheel for the 12 mm saw. It has more fins, and is quite a bit heaver. Seems that this would increase inertia so it will tend to hold rpms better, or just twist the crank out of time lol

Interesting, i have 3 different 044 flywheels, one for small pilot crank and heavy, another with big crank and heavy, then a lightweight big crank style with less fins

So were im confused is i thought the flywheel side crankshaft taper on all 044 saws was the same. All 3 have 1128 numbers, so do i have an aluminum 046 flywheel that was never made?

I use the base gasket for the pattern

If you use a base gasket as a general pattern you know how far to slot it. If there is a tiny bit of wiggle room it can easily be centered by installing the bolts when the piston is at the bottom of the stroke. It will self align
