It seems to me that years ago I read about a few people putting a 2100 piston in a 395xp to gain some squish without taking the deck height down on the cylinder. I'm just wondering if anyone on this forum has tried that before and if so how much work has to be done to the piston in order to see noticeable gains?

I've heard the opposite but for other reasons.

I have heard of that as well, it was the thin ring 2100 piston, but to find one of them at this day would be pricey.

The 2100 piston is .061" taller with the same skirt depth. My postal scale isn't accurate enough for the difference in weight.
I also haven't measured the 395 bore to see which 2100 piston size fits best. I plan on it at some point, but I'd rather get a reading on a brand new oem jug. It would be great if someone can share that measurement.

The 2100 "C" piston is 55.95mm at bottom of skirt, the "B" is closer to 55.85mm at bottom. I'll add the measurement of the "A" piston after I find it.

I do the opposite (395 piston in 2100) because the aftermarket pistons for the 2100 suck. Also I like the 395 piston design better for a ported cylinder. It doesn't just rely on the flow through the piston windows like the 2100 thin ring piston does.
