I guess i have read a little too much lately on here about the 394xp. I saw one for what i thought was a good price and bought it. Most everything looks great. Piston and cylinder look great with machine marks still visible on the piston. Compression is right at 150lb at .045 squish. Only problem is a missing muffler support bracket. I have ordered a new one along with the 4 screws but suspect that the lower bracket screw that threads into the oil reservoir may be stripped. It looks like the guy sealed the hole with some sort of adhesive. I plan to Helicoil the hole but want to ask if someone can help me with the thread pitch of that screw and possibly advice on the best place to buy the Helicoil tools and insert that i will need. Thanks for any help.

Hey Agr, I recently had the same thing happen to my 394. A piece of a Granberg mill was too close and ended up vibrating on the screw and totally blew out the threads into the case. I simply bought an M6x1.0 (I think it was 20 or 25mm long) bolt from Lowe's and re-tapped the hole, and used serviceable loctite.

Thanks for the tip. So the screw was about 1"? I guess it doesnt matter if the screw potrudes through a little bit into the oil reservoir?

Thanks. I would probably do a gas flush of the reservoir afterwards too.
