I just read up on the screw thing to increase oil flow. Are these newer adjustable pumps a drop in update or do they not interchange?

Gave up piston fit. So many different combos, thin thick one two this that...
It will be easier to buy a jug and piston set.

Seems kind of off backwards there. 181 must have a heaveir big end at the pin area and a very heavy piston with dual rings.

All 181/281/288's and 394/395's have adjustable oilers.

To put this crankshaft discussion to bed. Here is few pictures comparing crankshafts.

181 on left, early 288 in middle and 395 on the right (because I didn't have a 394 out of a case but they look identical except for the flywheel snout). You see how the forging has been revised through the years to radius the edge of the counter balance and require less machine finishing.

Here is the 181 (left) and 288 (right) cranks. See they have the same part number, different revision and the 288 crank has a relief around the bearing probably for better main being oiling. They weight withing 1g of each other.

You still looking for a basketcase ? I have a 395 that was complete and running but the cylinder is toast. OEM piston and cylinder kits are reasonable these days. Saw is currently disassembled and in a box.

No no. Keep the thread going.

Someone will make you an offer. I got three, so far. Hoping you nailed down the right deal too.

Send those offers to Greece if you ship to there.

I should be closing this week or whenever he is ready. Found my deal.

I use a freight company in Oregon and they handle all the shipping over. Makes it easy to shop in the US and then bundle the stuff for shipping.

Congrats on the find!
