A little. I've gone to far before and recoil parts start breaking if you forget to use the decomp
I’ve broke the recoil in my old 385 Mike did last winter twice. Definitely a weak spot imo, using the same recoil pulley/spring as the smaller 372. With a lower compression hyway 390 cylinder and advance it never broke it though. I miss that saw. With either cylinder on it, it was fun.

I built Walt in Arizona one for high altitude. I broke the whole starter assembly on my test saw. It has one bolt broken already and 3 would t hold that much.
Luckydad's broke a few plastic drivers and the metal flywheel pawls a couple times in Missouri. And it still does it even now in Alabama LOL

Just so everyone knows, in these work saws, it's not compression that's killing the starters. It's too much timing advance and from not finding top dead center first.

Although be added compression doesn't help matters

My "new to me" 390xp arrived today! Needs a few things but dang it's everything it was advertised to be. I don't mean to brag, but I've been itching for a 385/90 for quite awhile and I'm excited as hell to address the couple things it needs and try it out!! :D
