Thats one of the perks of working a steel shop......
Been a blacksmith and a metalworker most of the last 30+ years but more saws and mowers and agricultural for a while now due to work being less available. Helpful skill set to have the steel work background alongside engines and machinery as im sure you no yourself Brian . Still have most of my basic workshop gear ,no milling machine though.

I think it will be fine Brian.

I was talking with a local jonsered dealer. he was selling some saws he rebuilt. he would take them all down and replace bearings and seals. I asked what he used for a puller...... I use a deep socket and a marteau. (French for Hammer.)

He takes out all the screws. puts the deepsocket to line up with the outside race of the bearing. Holds the case in one hand hovering over the bench. 4-6 whacks its split.
no heat no puller just a hammer and socket!

He learned this from the guy that he bought the business from. My Dad used to go there even before I was born. So they have used this method for probably more than 40 years.

Digging up bit of an oldie. Good thread with good info.

You guys planning to have your 357s at the GTG?

@RIDE-RED 350r @XP_Slinger

Or any chance of a smaller wood “after” vid?

Trying to decide if I want to mess with the new 357 top end for my 359.

Thanks
My 357 is always in the truck for a GTG. Here’s a couple videos from last summer in smaller wood, type is seasoned Beech. The saw is tuned for work in the first video, if I recall it was at 14.5k no load. Second video I pushed it a little more, started out at 15.2k no load tune but she leaned out a little too much after a few cuts as you can hear in the video.
Running 20” bar with same 3/8 square filed chain in videos.

Work tune, 12” (approx) seasoned Beech.

Cranked up a little too high...but still fun:) 14” (approx) seasoned Beech.
