Anyone remember Oregon 34LG chain? It's .325/.058 standard kerf chisel but has low profile cutters. I used this a lot in the past. Recently I was searching to find a couple of loops to try out and see how it compares to LPX. As it turns out I wound up with a couple of 25' reels and the chain is in great shape. Anyone else have old stock of this and still use it?

I have a few loops around, when they stopped making it I put em on a shelf. Guess I figured I better hang on to them in case I ever needed a really good chain. Come to think of it that must be close to 20 years ago. I really liked that chain, never thought thr 21 lpx was as good, probably all in my head. I'd like to hear your opinion on em side by side in cuts.:)

I wont be doing any comparisons for a while. Hurt my back in the fall plus we have a ton of snow here so no chance yet to drop the 8 or 9 trees on my lot that need to come down.

I remember that I had always used Stihl RM and Oregon 34LG and thought they cut equal. But I've never done timed cuts in controlled conditions either. Once 34LG went away I started using 21BPX and occasionally 21LPX. My vague memories are that 34LG did not dull as easily as 21LPX even though both are chisel chain. Maybe due to the low profile cutters??

Thanks, that was a good read. I didn't see a video of the 33LG you filed 3/16. Do you remember how that performed?

I think it was ran in the 325 build off to compare with stock and my pos square filed.

Interesting videos and info, thanks!

After watching the videos I didn't get the impression that the LG was 50% slower than the LPX. Hmmm. The LG seemed fast enough for me, I don't race.

I had always used 5/32 to sharpen 34LG. When I get a chance to try this chain out I'll try a 3/16 file.

In mid-80's (west coast) the Jonsered 450/455 came with 34LG. Anything over 45cc got 72LP/LG and the 33LG was considered homeowner chain. I stayed away from .325 chain for years because of old habits until I started running 20LPX!

I used to use 33LG and RS for my fav work chains in 325. But after using the LPX I am sold on it.

Friend bought me out of the LG33 and still loves it. Especially when I gave him my 3/16th file and square filed ones.
He said I dont know what you did to those last chains I got from you but keep doing it.

Does anyone still have connecting links for the 33 34 35 LG chain? I inherited part of a roll minus the connecting links.

Reuse the preset that you punched out off the roll.
I’m not sure I know what you mean. Reuse the link that I punch out when I cut the piece off the roll?

Correct, make sure the punch is dead center on the 2 rivet heads to not deform so bad that you can't get the side strap back on it.
You may need a small 4mm or smaller socket and a small hammer to get them mated together.
Then use the hammer to finish the rivets when the loop is joined.
