Hello. I just acquired this saw. Was looking it over and have some questions. I do not believe if has original piston and cylinder. Seems to be a 2010 model. There is no decomp. Here are some pics. Any ideas?IMG_20180304_132521.jpg IMG_20180303_192256.jpg

I think it is an OEM cylinder, but an OE 42mm. I'm not sure of the switch, but I think it was when they added the primers as well

My thought was that it was an OEM cylinder as well. Just not sure from what.

I just did a compression test. Only 135 psi. But it runs and cuts real nice

It's an oem 346xp cylinder, but the older version. 135 psi isn't good, if your gauge is right, should be around 160. New oem 50cc top end is $120 if you want, or a Meteor piston for that cylinder $35 or so. Pull the muffler and have a look at the piston. Very good saw and well worth throwing a little $ at!!!

Okay thanks Sunfish. I think I will go with the new 50cc oem p&c. I will bet they cost a lot more here in Ontario Canada though.

Cuts real strong. Only put it through a few cuts in back yard though. Will give it a good run and will see.

Rather than start a new thread I thought I would tack onto this one. I have a tree service guy asking me for a 346xp but they are a rare bird in this area. I do have a nice 351 that I can convert so I have looked up the oem kit for the 346ne. What I noticed was the 346 and the 353 kits have the same oem part number. Has it always been this way? Does that mean that any 353 rebuilt today will become a 346xp? Also, will the converted 351 suffer if I use the oem 351 carburetor?

They should not have the same part number. Hopefully you don't wind up with the 45mm jug. The 351 should have an HDA-159(here in the states at least) which will fuel a stock or lightly modded 44.3 346 just fine.

Okay I found where I was going wrong. When I go to Firedog and search the IPLs for the piston/cyl kit for the 353, it lists 2 different kits - 1 with decomp and 1 without, both for the 346xp 50cc. Then when I looked carefully at the parts menu, there is an "unknown" part for a little higher price, and that is the part number for the true 353 cylinder. So Firedog has defaulted their 353 listings to the 346xp kits - likely because they are cheaper and more sought after.

Here is what I get:

537253104 = 353 oem

544142907 = 346XPne no decomp

544142908 = 346XPne with decomp

I went to the Husqvarna website and could only find IPLs for the 346 - all they have for the 353 is op. manuals unless I searched wrong.
