I have a decent 254 about an hour away for $150 with new Oregon bar. I won’t have time to get there until Thursday. The guy said he’ll hold it unless somebody shows up with cash. Kinda sucks knowing that.

Speaking of that, NO SQUARE FILE CHAINS JOSH! :p
WTF!!!!! Now you’re making up rules?!?!?!? Scared big bro? Wishing you knew how to do that “stupid filing” now? I’ll play fair and even, but that’s some BS...lol!

How about we don’t race til my Saw is broke in? That’ll be my rule lol

Screw that. File up 2 chains, run on both saws for 2 cuts each, then 5 cuts each. Check for deviation in chain times then test some more. Square on both will level the playing field in my opinion.

But then I’d have to convert 4 chains to square. Joe won’t even try square filing. Given that, I’d count on us both using round ground square chisel. Just easier on me.

You do know that the 262 is a bigger saw right?

And that this thread is about a 346 vs a 254
Yes. But the 262 is the slightly bigger sibling to the 254. They are similar enough a 262 cylinder can be put on a 254. My point was that the 254 probably isn’t that far off in performance. Maybe someone whose had both can comment about that.

I don't own a 262 yet but am working on closing a deal as we speak. Having said that, my guesstimation is that the 254 and 262 relate to each other as a 346 and 357. I don't think a 346/262 comparison would be remotely competitive once the wood reaches 14" or so. I do think that the 254/346 comparison will be very interesting though.

My 254 is stout indeed for its size..and while it won’t run with a 262 i believe it’d outrun a 346ne if the bar is buried. I can’t go completely apples to apples because my 346 was ported by @rattler and is a completely different saw than stock.

The 254 and 262 share the same cases, but the 262 has a longer connecting rod.
