My 254 is stout indeed for its size..and while it won’t run with a 262 i believe it’d outrun a 346ne if the bar is buried. I can’t go completely apples to apples because my 346 was ported by @rattler and is a completely different saw than stock.

I had a ported 254 with a 87 carb from a 262. That saw was stupid strong. I have no experience with stock saws other than a couple 10mm 044s Ive had.

The fact that both our saws are stock is kinda what got me interested in this little face off. Pretty rare to find either model stock in this community any more...lol

Can I play? It'll be a while tho.

Always welcome Dale!

I think the 346xp is a quad port transfer. Isn’t the 254 dual port?

What size wood/bar are you testing in? I usually pair the 346xp with a 16” bar. In 12” wood I would expect the 346 to be zippier, faster chain speed in the cut, but as the wood approaches 16” I would think the extra cc for the 254 would play an advantage in torque to keep chain speed up and the 254 might edge out the 346.

The 254 should be a little stronger in larger wood over the 346. It'll be close.

But a stock 357xp will smoke both of them. o_O
I agree. I haven't run Josh's 254 alot, but enough to get the jist of it. In my opinion a 357 would monkey-stomp the 254.

My 346 wears an 18" bar running .325 full chisel. I can't remember if Joshs 254 is running 16" or 18"...I want to say it's 18". If they are different, I think we will choose which length to run em and go with it.

So the 254 has a 4cc advantage on the 346. Why not pair it to a stock 357, which only has 2.5cc more? Closer comparo? :polutxoso:
This all started becasue I told Joe my stock 254 would eat his stock 346's lunch, he didn't agree so here we are...LOL! I agree the more comparable model is the 357 but I KNOW a 357 would thump a 254. Can't use my 357 as a comparison because it is farrrrrrr from stock.

If you’re doing a head-to-head, having a smaller and a larger size wood would be interesting to compare speeds.
16”, 18”, .325 full chisel, semi skip, square ground, whatever you decide on it’s gotta be the same bar/chain.

We planned on doing small and larger logs...Just hope this forecasted Noreaster doesn't foil our plans for the weekend...Snow will put Joe on the road plowing

I believe the 357 XP was the replacement for the 254XP, just like the 359 was the replacement for the 257.
Yep, and it seems that when they replace a model, the new model ups the ante in performance. Another example: 562 and 555 replaced 357 and 359 respectively. Both are higher performers than their respective predecessors.

Did the Husqvarna 362 get replaced by the 562 or the 365?

262 -> 362 -> 560.
That 362 was a disaster, heavy and bulky for a 60cc saw, nevertheless it's a 3.5kw 60cc saw
