Anyone square .325 chain. From round to square.
1) what are the advantages?
2) what are the disadvantages?

Is it truly worth it to do?

Please post pictures of your work

I ran it yesterday for the first time. All my 70cc saws run 3/8 square. I had a few customers lately, wanting me to square up some .325.
That was a first request for that. So we made some loops using stihl .325 and reground them.
I used a Husqvarna 346xp for the power. And only had some oak logs about 8-12 inches in diameter.
I would like some other options on grind.
But from what I experienced, I could definitely tell why there wanting the square.

Thank you RI,
Wish I could get a better picture. It looks so much better in person than the pictures. This chain is extremely sharp. And cuts great ( my opinion)
I been selling stihl and Oregon chain along time, been sharpening chains for some time, but always learning and have a desire to learn more.
So any help, honest opinions would be greatful.

It does look like it cuts like a razor. I am all set up for traditional round filing, and not sure if I want to switch over to square. But it does intrigue me. Looks difficult to do and time consuming.

It is time consuming (says the guy who's done a couple of loops). Maybe it gets faster when you suck less at it. I bet once you're set up for it and decent at it, yeah it's worth doing.

Is it worth the investment of time and money to get to that point? That's for you to decide. I have cut lots of wood with round filed chain. Square is cool, though, and who doesn't like a challenge?

You think people would use it, I thought about grinding some loops. .325x.050 and .063 using stihl chain.
And trying to sell it.
Example. 74dl. For 18" bar. Ground square 28.12
Do you think that's to expensive. There would also be shipping involved .
But of course, chainsaw chain is very dangerous, proper protective gear, training and equipment should also be used.

I convert .325 round to square. It's actually my favorite chain to square file.

Looks real sharp. What types of advantages do you notice over round toothed .325

Here it is on a Jonsey 2150 w/ muff mod in poplar.
Edit:
I think it's totally worth it to do. You can see the difference in the end of the log after switching to square. You're cutting fibers and not gouging and tearing. See how smooth, no pulled fibers sticking out.

I personally treat them the same. The saw this chain is used on doesn't have the powa to lower them anymore.
