What is the exact differences that make a 288xp a light vs a standard model? Is one more desireable than the other and any pros and cons to each? Also how would you rate a 288xp stock or ported from what I have heard I think I would like to get one but I really don't know much about these saws

I like most saws what Im wondering is how much will I like it as I haven't gotten to run one and which type I would like best. When I really like one I tend to buy it or a couple.....

If you don't like a 288, you really should be knitting slippers.

Or you could get one and the few different parts that make it a Lite or not and switch them up. I have seen people with a Lite that added the front mount, but kept everything else the same. I have never ran one other than mine, so I can't chime in on which I like better. Everything is personal preference anyway on that kind of thing.

If you're like me and love variety, I just like to grab different saws for fun, then you will love a 288! But it's not gonna do anything the other two saws wont do.

I agree with the above posts. I love my 288 lite! And I got it for a real good deal. Its not real purdy on the outside, but she's beatiful on the inside! Its one of the two saws I bring into the woods.

I have both. 288 ported well by Randy and 661 ported, well by me:). Either one of these will cut anything I want.

Im gonna compare these to a 69' and 15' Challenger. Both will get you down the road quick but Id still buy the 69' first and my 288 is still my favorite.

Ive had 45 ported Mastermind saws to date. The only saw I have owned that I would not consider selling is my 288xp lite that I bought from him years ago and then had him port. Ive had near everything out there that's worth having, and ported, and I would be totally content, (if it was my only saw) with my old scratched up 288xp lite.

Screw the 661.
Id buy that 288xp lite on eBay if it was me.
Id dare say if you bought the 288xp and a brand new 661, and used them both equally, the 288 will last longer. They are rugged, dependable, durable, and simple. There are very few if any saws on the market currently, that that can be said about. Nothing today is built to the same standards as the products of yesterday. Product replacement drives commerce.

Not lying. I was just talking with Randy this morning. Im seriously considering selling more than half of what I have. There's gonna be some saws hit the trading post soon that will put a few of you all on the couch for a month.
