I picked up a 288xp that has suffered from some abuse, so I am looking to purchase a replacement for this clutch cover that has seen better days.

When I first looked at the saw I wondered why the owner had cut that hole in the cover - ventilation???

Sadly, he had actually left the brake on and burned a hole right through the side ugh.

Hey Chris the 272 I had has a matching cover! Was wondering how that happened! Now I wonder why I still have that cover...[emoji848]

I honestly don't know for sure, but I have a theory. On my saw there was so much crud packed into every nook and cranny, I think the clutch cover accumulated 25 years of hardened chain oil and saw dust that eventually forced the brake band to rub on the clutch drum. It would vibrate and get hot and over time wear through the cover.
