I picked up a 288xp that has suffered from some abuse, so I am looking to purchase a replacement for this clutch cover that has seen better days. View attachment 133788
I honestly don't know for sure, but I have a theory. On my saw there was so much crud packed into every nook and cranny, I think the clutch cover accumulated 25 years of hardened chain oil and saw dust that eventually forced the brake band to rub on the clutch drum. It would vibrate and get hot and over time wear through the cover.
