Hey guys I have a question or three. I'm working on spiffing up an old hightop non decomp mahle 288xp and it may be due for a new carburetor because of a loose throttle shaft and jets. Does anyone know if a new replacement from husky is a tillotson or walbro? I'm assuming it will be a tilly because the walbro version I've come accross is half the price and has a plastic elbow. Also is there an adjustment or performance difference betwen the two with this saw? I have access to a cheapy china carb but don't really have much confidence in those as of yet. Thanks.

That they do, and it's a Raisman, I'm unfamiliar with that brand. It's brazilian and marked as aftermarket on amazon.

This is what I've found on them. They may very well be a quality Tillotson copy engineered in Brazil, maybe even actually 'Made in Brazil' but all info leads to 'Manufactured in China'. Just like most products stamped 'Made in USA'. Most everything is made in china anymore and I'm not saying a tilly or walbro isn't but a $10 difference in savings from husky makes me wonder if it's worth buying. Especially when a whole bunch of $10-20 carbs are advertised as Genuine OEM Tillotson, and the fine print is entirely different. So as we have drifted off course a little from my original post. Does anyone have experience with Tillotson, Walbro, ' Raisman ' , and one of several chinese named carbs on these saws? Which works best or is it really just all moot when a carb is a carb and will all need tuned?

This series of saw only ever came with a Tillotson carb, no Walbro was ever an option. Out of the few Tillotson carbs offered for this series the HS-228 and HS-283 EPA carbs where the best since they did not have a governor circuit and are a nozzle style carburetor. The HS-228 is the only one still available from Husqvarna when I checked, but I didn't look that hard at older models.

I've never had a Raisman but I would be interested in trying one. Seems to be a copy of the HS-228 without the EPA limiters.

The IPL shows limiter caps, but that may have only been on the HS-283.

Also it looks like early versions of the HS-228 didn't have a nozzle, I know the C version has one.

We can ask Bruce about the carb origin.
@Gentleman
Any help boss?
The carb we have is genuine Tillotson HS-228C. We also have the Chinese version. Raisman sells some Tillotson carbs and their own AM version. I think they are trying to say that their part# 46-10-H20 replaces Tillotson HS-228. We don't have any of those. I fixed our listing. It should not have had the Raisman logo above the photo.

Ooh, thank you. I looked and indeed the stock photo has been corrected. Makes deciding that much easier.
