262XP Rebuild - Junk Pile Save

After a hurtful scolding from Joe, I’m finally working on my 262 rebuild. Here’s where I’m starting, I bought this chassis in this state from my local dealer for $20...I like cheap. So here we go.....

I bought this saw just to snag the flywheel for my 254 build. Let’s just say everyone here is the best kind of bad influence a guy can have around...lol

started to tear it down and found the kill wire routed improperly under the edge of the top cover. This of course was crushing the wire.



It should’ve been routed through the hole in the case here.

After scraping some crud off I discovered my saw has the metal seal carrier, I thought it had a plastic one...Woohoo!



Looks to be the original seal.



This bearing is just a weeeeeee bit crusty

Next I removed the oil pump. First the 3 mount fasteners come out;



Next, pick the crud out of these two holes and thread in 2 cylinder fasteners. Gently and evenly tighten both, the oil pump housing rises out of the grime. One of my favorite features on these old oil pumps.

Now off comes the cylinder, mine is a KS no decomp variation.



Look at the size of the lower transfers! Holy shnikes! Just an assumption but I think the uppers need to be opened up for this cylinder to reach its potential.



The piston is also a KS, I suspect it to be the original.

The lowers on this cylinder look every bit as large as those of a 288!

My 262 itch is flaring up big time!

I have a 120 for it Dan, the saw didn’t have one on it when I got it. Tried getting an 87 but found out just how hard those are to come by these days.

Ya I just looked back at your pics and saw that there was an empty space where the carb should be!

Yes sir! This wasn’t really a step by step tear down because it was in a hodge podge state to begin with...lol!

Crank removed and looks to be in good condition.

I know @Tor R said that they beefed up the crank in I think 1993??? My saw is a 1992 so I believe I have the superseded crank.
