Sounds like I need to start hunting for a sub 45cc Saw to bring to the party.
I think you should leave it be. I bet that little bugger is fun to run as is.Yes...you do!
Sounds like a good time Bob. I don't plan to get crazy grinding on this cylinder. I'm thinking a base gasket delete and see where the numbers fall...I might not grind on it at all.
Good little saws. I have one hanging in the garage.Hijack!!!!!

I’ve been wanting to find a good builder for a while. Only thing missing is flywheel, starter assy and muffler. Needs a piston, with any luck the cylinder will clean up. Everything else is cleaning and longevity repairs like bearings, seals, lines etc.Good little saws. I have one hanging in the garage.
congratz!!!Hijack!!!!!

same flywheel & starter assy as 257/261/262 use, they should be an easy task.I’ve been wanting to find a good builder for a while. Only thing missing is flywheel, starter assy and muffler. Since you asked I don’t think Joe will mind talking 254 for a bitsame flywheel & starter assy as 257/261/262 use, they should be an easy task.
Muffler is special for 254, but I wonder if a 55 muffler also fit
Currious, what s/n does this 254 has?
And thanks for the info on Parts interchangeability with the 257 and 262! There’s a couple of each on the Parts shelf that I can rob Parts off of.
Wow thanks Joe! PM inboundI have a muffler, whats your address? Merry Christmas.
they swapped starter assy after s/n 0150175, wasnt anything done with the jugs&pistons, nor was it later, so your 254 is a true 254 XP.Since you asked I don’t think Joe will mind talking 254 for a bit
It appears to be an older model as it doesn’t have the “XP” designator on the tag.

Them 51/55 coils is also the same, if I remember correct the fuel tank, clutch, and ruffly all the 51/55 brake parts is a fit also. And thanks for the info on Parts interchangeability with the 257 and 262! There’s a couple of each on the Parts shelf that I can rob Parts off of.
Thanks so much for sharing all this great info. I was a little skeptical about building a 254 because I thought Parts were tough to find. But thanks to you I now know what saws to look for. Thanks Tor!!!!they swapped starter assy after s/n 0150175, wasnt anything done with the jugs&pistons, nor was it later, so your 254 is a true 254 XP.
The biggest upgrade happen after your saw, s/n 3360001, the crank got a bigger con rod bearing, that said, out of 8 254's I've yet to seen a blown 254 crank, cant say the same about 262

91-95 was the golden years!!!!By all means, carry on with the 254 talk. After all, if I'm not mistaken it is just one size bigger than the 242 in the XP family of that era. Plus I'm in limbo waiting for that 6201 bearing anyway...
That 254 a 1993 model if I'm not mistaken...same year as my 394...good year
Thanks big bro I’m excited. @Tor R mentioned it being a bullet proof saw and I think I know why. It looks like a 2/3 size 288 by design. So now I have a 288 mini me. Lol! 2-series bullet proof muscle FTW!!!!By all means, carry on with the 254 talk. After all, if I'm not mistaken it is just one size bigger than the 242 in the XP family of that era.
